Rules of Origin Technical Workshop Held as Fiji Continues Technical Assessment of Pacer Plus Accession

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Honourable Sakiasi Ditoka received the courtesy call visit from the Vice Governor of Guangdong Province of the People’s Republic of China, Her Excellency Madame Zhang Guozhi, and her delegation at the Ministry headquarters in Suva on Monday 14 September 2026.
The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding Fiji-China relationship and cooperation, following the commemoration of 50 years of diplomatic relations last year.
Minister Ditoka reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to the One China Policy and welcomed opportunities to translate the bilateral relationship into practical cooperation that delivers tangible benefits for the people of Fiji.
Key areas discussed included:
- Technical training and capacity building opportunities for Fiji nationals in technical fields
- Small-scale renewable energy solutions for Fiji’s outer islands
- Greater market access for Fijian exports, including kava, coconut, fisheries and mineral water
- Progress on the FJD $300 million China-Aid Vanua Levu Road Upgrading Project
- Guangdong’s support for climate-resilient infrastructure, including the donation of 100 solar-powered streetlights
Minister Ditoka also welcomed Guangdong Province’s interest in expanding practical cooperation across priority sectors and emphasised the importance of partnerships that create lasting development outcomes.
In her response, Madame Guozhi thanked the Fiji Government for the continued collaboration and expressed Guangdong’s readiness to work with the respective agencies to translate the cooperation into practical outcomes for the mutual benefit of both countries.
During their visit to Fiji, the Guangdong delegation also engaged with Government agencies in trade and investment, infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, digital transformation, human resources development, renewable energy and disaster response.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening practical cooperation and delivering meaningful outcomes for the two countries and their peoples.
