Fiji Seizes Strategic Platform At Australia’s Ministerial Council On Trade And Investment

Melbourne, Australia – 11 June 2026 – The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka, delivered a forward-looking address at Australia’s Sixth Ministerial Council on Trade and Investment, marking Fiji’s first-ever participation as a special guest.

Minister Ditoka thanked Australian Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator the Hon Don Farrell, for the invitation, describing it as a strong reflection of the growing Fiji–Australia Vuvale Partnership.

He outlined Fiji’s national economic agenda focused on building a resilient, diversified, and inclusive economy. He highlighted key priorities including expanding value-added exports, modernising trade facilitation, and attracting climate-resilient investment across renewable energy, agribusiness, fisheries, tourism, logistics, and digital services.

The Minister also underscored Fiji’s growing export opportunities in kava, coffee, vanilla, cocoa, spices, garments, and value-added fisheries products, supported by strengthening production capacity and private sector partnerships.

He further highlighted Fiji’s major infrastructure priorities, including climate resilience projects, transport and port upgrades, and the proposed National Tertiary Hospital, as critical investments for long-term growth and connectivity.

Minister Ditoka emphasised Fiji’s strategic role as a Pacific logistics hub, supporting regional supply chains and strengthening connectivity for smaller island states, while enhancing cooperation on biosecurity and market access with Australia.

He said Fiji’s participation provided a valuable platform to align investment priorities with Australian government and private sector capabilities, noting strong opportunities for deeper economic cooperation.

Minister Ditoka reaffirmed that the Fiji–Australia economic relationship remains strong, trusted, and full of untapped potential.
