
Fiji Reaffirms Bilateral Relations with The Republic of Turkiye

The Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Lenora Qereqeretabua received a courtesy call from the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Fiji, His Excellency Hani Mohamed Nagi on Wednesday, 25 March at the Ministry’s headquarters.
Ambassador Nagi currently serves as Egypt’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Commonwealth of Australia and holds concurrent accreditation as non-resident ambassador to Fiji, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, the Republic of Nauru, Solomon Islands, and the Republic of Vanuatu.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review and strengthen the bilateral relationship between Fiji and Egypt, which was formally established in 1972. Hon. Qereqeretabua warmly congratulated H.E. Nagi on his appointment and conveyed her appreciation to President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for his leadership and continued support in cementing relations between the two countries.
Hon. Qereqeretabua also underscored Fiji’s proud history of contributing to global peacekeeping missions, noting that Fijian personnel remain actively deployed in operations across the Middle East region. She further highlighted the importance of continued collaboration in international peacekeeping efforts, recognizing the role both countries play in promoting global peace and security. Hon. Qereqeretabua also reaffirmed Fiji’s longstanding commitment to supporting United Nations peacekeeping operations.
The Assistant Minister highlighted Fiji and Tuvalu’s role in hosting Pre-Conference of Parties (Pre-COP 31) climate meetings later this year, ahead of the COP 31 conference in Türkiye. She called on Egypt and Fiji to continue championing ambitious global climate action at multilateral fora, including the United Nations.
His Excellency Nagi extended his sincere gratitude to Hon. Qereqeretabua and the Government of Fiji for the hospitality extended to him on his official engagement in Fiji. He acknowledged the depth and significance of the bilateral relations between both nations, and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to further strengthening and elevating ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Nagi conveyed Egypt’s appreciation for Fiji’s contributions to regional and international peace and security, and expressed keen interest in exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation, including in the areas of capacity building, trade, and people-to-people connections. He reiterated Egypt’s solidarity with the Pacific region on the issue of climate change and looked forward to close collaboration ahead of COP 31. H.E. Nagi assured Assistant Minister Qereqeretabua of his full commitment to advancing the partnership between Egypt and Fiji during his tenure.
The courtesy call reflects the ongoing commitment of both countries to nurturing a strong and enduring bilateral partnership.
