Diplomatic Community Farewells Late Former President

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka and Assistant Minister, Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua, together with members of the Diplomatic Corps signed the condolence book for former President, the late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Suva this week from Thursday 9 – Friday 10, April 2026.
The members from across the Diplomatic Corps have gathered to pay their final respect, reflecting the profound impact the late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau made not only within Fiji, but across the global, regional and national stages.
The late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau stands among Fiji’s most distinguished national figures, a high chief, a statesman, military officer, diplomat, whose life was defined by dedicated and selfless service to Fiji and the wider Pacific region. His enduring contributions to the national development, regional cooperation, and international diplomacy have left an indelible mark.
Messages of sympathy and admiration have continued to pour in with members of the Diplomatic Corps showing their respect to the late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau – an outstanding, exceptional leader and statesman who embodied wisdom, humility, dignity, and grace in service.
They expressed heartfelt appreciation for the late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau’s unwavering commitment to diplomacy, his exemplary leadership during pivotal moments in Fiji’s history and his ability to foster unity and respect among nations.
Throughout his life, the late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau was widely admired for his humility, warmth, and approachable nature. He maintained a genuine connection with people from all walks of life, and was deeply respected leader whose service was grounded in integrity, commitment to service and an enduring devotion to Fiji.
Members of the Diplomatic Corps further acknowledged the late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau as a man of integrity, whose calm presence and wisdom earned him huge admiration and respect across political and cultural boundaries, and whose legacy will continue to inspire current and future generations.
As the condolence book remains open at MFAET headquarters in Suva next week from Monday 13th to Wednesday 15th April 2026, the Ministry continues to welcome members of the Diplomatic Corps to honor a life of service, leadership, and profound humanity of late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.
