This week at the World Trade Organisation (WTO). It was Trade & Environment Week. Apart from the main committee meetings, there were also Side Events being held.
On behalf of the Pacific, Fijis DPR Seruvatu co-moderated with Mr. Marcus Henry, Assistant Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia, a Side Event on Trade’s role in meeting our climate ambitions.
Trade remains underused in the global climate response – yet it holds untapped potential for the transition to net zero. As WTO Members pursue ambitious environmental goals, trade policy can help improve access to the goods, services, and technologies needed for decarbonisation and adaptation, while also creating new economic opportunities through green comparative advantages.
Featuring insights from the Pacific, Australia, the PIFS Climate Change and Resilience Team, the Australian National University, and the International Institute for Sustainable Development.
