Fiji, Australia and Tuvalu Strengthen Cooperation Ahead of Pre-COP and COP31

Pacific ACP Leaders have reaffirmed the importance of stronger regional partnerships and collective action in advancing the Pacific’s shared development priorities.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka, joined Pacific ACP Leaders yesterday (31:08:26) on the margins of the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Palau.
Chaired by the President of Palau, His Excellency Surangel Whipps Jr, the meeting provided an opportunity for leaders to reflect on the value of regional and international partnerships, including the Samoa Agreement, which provides the framework for cooperation with the European Union through the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).
Discussions focused on the economic outlook for Pacific ACP States, strengthening regional partnerships, implementation of the Samoa Agreement and advancing common priorities under the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
Leaders were also briefed on the work of the Pacific Climate Champions as the region prepares for COP31, reinforcing the Pacific’s collective efforts to keep climate action and the priorities of vulnerable island states firmly on the international agenda.
Fiji remains committed to working with Pacific partners to strengthen regional cooperation and advance shared priorities that support the resilience, prosperity and sustainable development of the Blue Pacific.
