Fiji signs host country agreement with International Idea, strengthening its leadership in democratic governance

The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Dr Raijeli Taga today received a farewell courtesy call from the Cuban Ambassador to Fiji H.E José Manuel Galego Montano, marking the conclusion of his 4-year diplomatic term in Fiji.
Dr Taga thanked Ambassador Montano for his commitment and contributions in strengthening the bilateral relations and collaboration between the two nations.
She acknowledged the support Cuba has provided to Fiji through provision of medical scholarships, enabling the Fijian students to pursue their medical studies, and reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to continue building on Fiji-Cuba relations.
Dr Taga also conveyed the Ministry’s best wishes to Ambassador Montano for his future endeavors as he prepares for his next assignment.
Ambassador Montano expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Government and the people of Fiji for their support during his tenure in Fiji and expressed confidence that the development cooperation will deepen in the years ahead.
With the establishment of the diplomatic relations in 2002 and opening of the Cuban Embassy in Fiji, in 2019 — the two nations have collaborated closely in key areas such as health and medical services, with emphasis on shared goal of advancing inclusive and transformative socio-economic development for the people of the two nations.
