
Presentation of Credentials Strengthens Fiji-Portugal Partnership

The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MFAET), Dr Raijeli Taga undertook a brief visit to the Fiji High Commission in Canberra, Australia on Thursday, 4 February 2026.
Dr Taga was accompanied by the Ministry’s Director Finance Mr Luke Ravusoni during a scoping exercise on Fiji Government properties in Australia’s capital. The mission forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the effective management and long term planning of Fiji’s overseas assets.
As part of the programme, Dr. Taga held a briefing session with Fiji’s High Commissioner to Australia H.E Ajay Amrit and staff of the Fiji High Commission and the Fiji Consulate General and Trade Commission. The engagement provided an opportunity for constructive discussions on the Mission’s policy priorities, operational responsibilities and administrative matters, reinforcing the shared commitment to delivering high quality service to Fijian nationals and advancing Fiji’s interests in Australia.
Trade Commissioner, Mr Daniel Stowe also provided a presentation on Fiji – Australia Trade relations and outlined the work of the Fiji Consulate General and Trade Commission based in Sydney.
Dr Taga also met with senior officials from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and had discussions focused on trade development, economic cooperation and key areas of collaboration under the renewed and elevated Fiji–Australia Vuvale Partnership. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the Vuvale relationship that continues to underpin cooperation across the bilateral and regional agenda.
The visit reflects Fiji’s ongoing dedication to strengthening institutional capacity, enhancing service delivery and advancing strategic partnerships for the benefit of the Fijian people.
