Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka met with members of the Fijian community in Tokyo, Japan last night, as part of his official visit to strengthen bilateral relations between Fiji and Japan.
In his address, Prime Minister Rabuka commended the Fijian diaspora for their valuable contributions to Fiji’s development through their remittances, skills, and community initiatives.
He said their commitment to their families and homeland continues to play an important role in supporting Fiji’s economy and promoting the nation’s values abroad.
At the outset, Hon. Rabuka shared that the Government of Japan had extended an invitation to him to visit the Land of the Rising Sun, an opportunity he graciously accepted, citing the long-standing friendship between Fiji and Japan, which is built on mutual respect, shared democratic values, and strong cooperation.
He acknowledged Japan’s continued support for Fiji, particularly through JICA, adding that our two great nations share deep bonds that has grown over decades.
In his concluding remarks, Prime Minister Rabuka urged Fijians residing in Japan to continue being exemplary residents and good ambassadors of Fiji.
