Fiji has renewed its commitment to regional solidarity and shared priorities at the United Nations.
While addressing the Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS) during a meeting in New York, Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka emphasised the Pacific way of unity and collaboration, noting the region’s historic influence in shaping global agendas.
At the outset, Prime Minister Rabuka commended the group’s adoption of new General Guidelines to strengthen its work at the UN.
“The PSIDS has, historically, proven to have leverage in shaping the Agenda of the UN, so, we as Leaders including Permanent Representatives here in New York, must remain vigilant in working closely together as a family guided by the Pacific Way,” said the Prime Minister.
“I wish to also thank the Chair and fellow Leaders for the adoption of the PSIDS General Guidelines which should enhance the work of PSIDS in addressing matters of shared priority at the UN.”
In concluding, Prime Minister Rabuka welcomed the opportunity for PSIDS to broaden its understanding of global issues while remaining firmly rooted in Pacific values.
PSIDS is an informal grouping within the United Nations made up of Pacific Island countries with a purpose to coordinate and amplify the Pacific’s voice at the UN.
