Prime Minister Rabuka meets Fijian Diaspora in Japan
13/11/2025Published On: 12/11/2025
Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka is undertaking an official visit to Japan this week.
At the invitation of the Government of Japan, the visit reaffirms the warm and enduring relations between Fiji and Japan, which is founded on mutual respect, friendship, and shared values of democracy, peace, and sustainable development.
A key highlight of the visit will be the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Rabuka and the newly elected and first female Prime Minister of Japan, Her Excellency Ms Takaichi Sanae.
Honourable Rabuka is among the first world leaders to meet with Her Excellency Ms Takaichi following her successful election as Prime Minister of Japan last month.
The two leaders are expected to sign the Lomavata- Kizuna partnership joint communique, an important milestone that further reaffirms our longstanding partnership and bilateral relations.
The communique symbolises a renewed commitment by both nations to strengthen cooperation across key areas of mutual interest including climate resilience, economic development, technology, and people-to-people ties, among other important initiatives.
In addition to his official engagements, Prime Minister Rabuka will also meet with the Fijian diaspora where he is expected to update them on the nation’s development plans and progress.
Fiji and Japan have maintained close ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1970.
The Prime Minister leaves tonight and will return on 16th November 2025.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Hon. Filimoni Vosarogo will act as Prime Minister while Hon. Rabuka is on official duty overseas.
