The meeting, held at Government House in Canberra, underscored the spirit of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
At the outset, Prime Minister Rabuka congratulated Her Excellency on her appointment as Governor-General and discussed key areas for further cooperation.
He highlighted the positive impact of Australia’s support in Fiji’s development, especially through budget assistance, economic reforms, private sector growth, and infrastructure investment.
Discussions also focused on sports diplomacy, with the Prime Minister commending initiatives such as the inaugural Vuvale Bowl rugby match between Australia and Fiji, and Fiji Airways’ sponsorships of major Australian teams including the ACT Brumbies and Melbourne Storm.
He also welcomed growing engagement with the Australian Football League (AFL), following his February meeting with representatives of the St Kilda Football Club in Suva.
On tourism development, Prime Minister Rabuka stated that the industry remains the cornerstone of economic partnership and the Fijian economy.
He noted that Australia continues to be Fiji’s largest tourism source market.
In 2024, Fiji surpassed one million visitor arrivals for the first time in history, with over 45% coming from Australia.

On regional issues, Prime Minister Rabuka reiterated Fiji’s support for Australia’s bid to host COP31, describing it as an important opportunity for the Pacific to influence global climate policy.
He also emphasised Fiji’s commitment to regional solidarity through the upcoming Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Honiara, where he is looking forward to the Leaders’ support and endorsement of the landmark “Ocean of Peace” Declaration.
In her response, Her Excellency Ms Mostyn expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the opportunity to meet and discuss ways to further strengthen our cooperation through mutual respect and trust.
