Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka and his delegation paid their respects at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra this afternoon, honouring the memory of soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
In a solemn ceremony witnessed by school students and visitors, the Prime Minister laid a wreath at the Pool of Reflection, marking the memorial’s Last Post Ceremony.
He paid tribute to the selflessness of Australia’s unsung heroes.
Accompanying the Prime Minister was Mr. Matt Anderson, the Director of the Australian War Memorial, who provided a guided tour of the World War 1 Gallery.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.” We honour the bravery of the young lives who served and the lives of those that were lost, their sacrifice echo through generations and their memory lives on in our hearts. Lest we forget,” said the Prime Minister.
Today’s Last Post Ceremony reminds us that the freedom we enjoy today must never be taken for granted. They were paid for by the lives of those who served, and those continuing today, many of whom made the ultimate sacrifice.
We know that life ends, but our responsibility to remember continues.
