Fiji High Commission in Wellington continues Joint Advocacy on Visa Issues

The Permanent Representative of Fiji, to the UN and International Organisations in Geneva, His Excellency Laitia Tamata, presented his Credentials to the Director General of the UN Office in Geneva (UNOG), Tatiana Valovaya, at the Palais de Nations, in Geneva, on the margins of the 61st Session, of the Human Rights Council on Monday 2 March 2026.
At the ceremony, Permanent Representative Tamata, conveyed the warm greetings of the President of the Republic of Fiji His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, the Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka, reaffirming Fiji’s longstanding commitment to strengthening multilateralism, at such a critical point in our history.
The Director General, commended Fiji’s active engagements and participation at multilateral forums in Geneva, and Fiji’s tireless efforts on multilateral support for addressing critical issues, such as climate change, sustainable development, and financing. Most notably, Fiji’s Presidency of the Human Rights Council, during Covid, as a reflection of resilience in challenging times.
Permanent Representative Tamata, being cognizant of the challenges of Missions in Geneva, also updated the Director General on the increasing number of Pacific Missions now established in Geneva. He emphasised the importance of our collective voice on key issues, across different multilateral platforms including Trade, Health, Intellectual Property, Human Rights, Migration, Labour, amongst others.
The Director General conveyed her best wishes to Fiji, as the Mission looks forward to continuing its active engagements at the UN Office in Geneva, and other International Organisations.
