
Historic meeting between Prime Minister Rabuka and Prime Minister Modi further reaffirms Fiji-India relationship

In preparation for the 2025/2026 financial year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently convened its Annual Planning Workshop from Thursday 21st to Saturday 23rd August 2025 at the Pearl Resort in Pacific Harbor.
The two-and-a-half-day workshop brought together the Ministry’s Senior Management Team including the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Directors, Heads of Divisions and Managers, with staff from Fiji’s Diplomatic Missions participating virtually via zoom.
The workshop highlighted key priorities and actionable plans for the 2025/2026 financial year with focus on strengthening both internal and external collaboration to operationalizing adequate resourcing for the timely implementation of the Ministry’s Plans and tangible outcomes and return on investment. Importantly, it enabled discussions on the alignment of the Ministry’s Strategic Plan 2025 – 2027 to Fiji’s National Development Plan (NDP) and Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper.
Additionally, it was an opportunity for MFA to engage with the Strategic Planning Office Team from the Ministry of Finance on the National Development Plan and similarly with iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) on their journey to Excellence at Workplace, with emphasis on sharing the best practices and building stronger cooperation, ahead.
The workshop was officially opened by the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Lenora Qereqeretabua. In her remarks, the Assistant Minister thanked the Ministry staff, both at the Headquarters and Fiji’s Diplomatic Missions for their continued diligence and commitment to their roles and encouraged them to continue to serve to the best of their abilities.
The planning initiative reaffirmed Ministry’s commitment to deepening bilateral, regional, and multilateral engagements in being the principal government agency responsible for advancing Fiji’s international interests. It served as a platform for Team bonding and sharing of information and ideas for the professional development and capacity building.
The workshop aimed to achieve the following outcomes:
- Establish common understanding of the Ministry’s mandate in the whole-of-government strategy;
- A shared understanding and appreciation of Ministry’s Planning Documents with concrete action plans with assigned responsibilities towards a minimum-optimum organisation;
- Brainstorming on the Framework for Monitoring and Evaluation for the Ministry; and
- Sharing of information and best practices with a sense of ownership and commitment towards the efficient and effective implementation of the Ministry’s Annual Plans.
