Trade and investment remain central to the Fiji–New Zealand Duavata Partnership, with Fiji focused on ensuring stronger economic ties to deliver tangible benefits for Fijians.

Delivering a ministerial statement in Parliament this week, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka, reaffirmed Fiji- NZ’s goal of achieving NZD $2 billion in annual two-way trade by 2030.

“Fiji currently exports approximately $150 million worth of goods to New Zealand while importing approximately $1.03 billion.

Simply increasing two-way trade is therefore not enough. We must substantially increase Fiji’s share of that relationship.”

The Minister highlighted kava as an example of how economic diplomacy can directly impact rural communities, noting that resolving market-access issues can create new buyers, orders and income for Fijian families.

Economic diplomacy is about turning partnerships into opportunities—and ensuring the benefits of trade reach the people of Fiji.
