
Prime Minister Rabuka shares his “Ocean of Peace” vision in New Delhi

The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Raijeli Taga welcomed the Director for Environment and Development Division at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in Bangkok, Mr. Sangmin Nam at a meeting held at the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) headquarters in Suva on Tuesday 26th August 2025.
Mr. Nam is in Fiji to attend the sixth Forum of Ministers and Environment Authorities of Asia Pacific (6th AP Forum) held in Nadi this week.
The meeting was an opportunity to discuss current cooperation and explore opportunities to further strengthen relations and regional cooperation between Fiji and UNESCAP.
Mr. Nam, briefed Dr. Taga on UNESCAP’s environmental work, which includes climate change, oceans, and urbanization.
The meeting further highlighted regional initiative of the 2023 resolution which is focused on
- ocean-based climate initiative
- blue carbon initiative
- decarbonization and
- low energy emission strategy
In response, Dr. Taga thanked Mr. Nam and acknowledged the positive dialogue undertaken in advancing shared aspirations and common development goals.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate on the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent and the recent BBNJ agreement.

The UNESCAP Commission promotes cooperation among its 53 member States and 9 associate members in pursuit of solutions to sustainable development challenges.
