In a heartfelt appreciation to the people behind the success of the Pacific’s first-ever Pre-COP31, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MFAET) and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) came together this Friday in Nadi, to recognise the dedication, professionalism and tireless efforts of the Fijian civil servants who helped deliver the historic climate meeting in Nadi.
From diplomatic and protocol services, and logistical arrangements to delegate coordination and accreditation, communications and operational support, their collective efforts reflected the unity of Fiji’s public service.
On behalf of the MFAET, Permanent Secretary Ambassador Solo Mara thanked the workforce for their dedication and professionalism.
” To our officers across ministries, departments and supporting agencies, I want you to know that your work has been recognised and is sincerely appreciated. Many of you worked extra hours, adjusted your schedules, and took on responsibilities beyond your normal duties. You did so with professionalism, patience and a shared determination to deliver.
“What I particularly wish to acknowledge is the unity and commitment demonstrated across the government service. Despite the scale and complexity of the operation, colleagues came together with a common purpose. That spirit of cooperation is one of our greatest strengths as a public service,” Ambassador Mara said.
In addition, Ambassador Mara highlighted that this climate conference was not just about hosting another international event, it was about giving our Pacific people a stronger voice in shaping their future whereby our civil servants understood the importance of this responsibility and gave their very best to make it happen.
The Director for Climate Change and Environment Ms. Senivasa Waqairamasi echoed similar sentiments, recognising the workforce’s invaluable contribution to elevating Pacific voices and climate priorities on the global stage.
The successful hosting of Pre-COP31 demonstrated Fiji’s capacity to deliver high-level international events through strong inter-ministerial coordination, diplomatic engagement and close collaboration with Australia, Tuvalu and regional and international partners.
As the Pacific builds momentum towards COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye, in November 2026, the event served as a reminder that behind every successful diplomatic engagement are people whose commitment, sacrifice and teamwork make a lasting difference.
For the Fijian workforce, Pre-COP31 was not simply another assignment. It was an opportunity to serve their country, represent the Pacific with pride and contribute to a cause that matters deeply to their communities and future generations.
The message from MFAET and MECC was one of heartfelt gratitude: Vinaka Vakalevu for your service and commitment to Fiji and the Pacific.
