The Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua, received a courtesy visit from Senior Programme Manager of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), Mr. Adhy Aman.
Hon. Qereqeretabua formally welcomed Mr. Aman and reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to the rule of Law, human rights, democratic pluralism.
In her opening remark, Hon. Qereqeretabua underscored the importance of partnerships that strengthen democratic institutions and promote transparent, accountable, and inclusive governance as Fiji prepares for its upcoming elections.
Hon. Qereqeretabua welcomed opportunities to deepen collaboration with International IDEA in advancing Fiji’s democratic reform agenda and supporting broader regional efforts in the Pacific.
This visit follows the signing of the Host Country Agreement in December 2025, formally establishing International IDEA’s presence in Fiji.
In his remarks, Mr. Aman commended Fiji’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its democratic institutions and reaffirmed International IDEA’s readiness to provide technical and capacity- building support where requested.
Further, Mr. Aman emphasized the International IDEA’s commitment to working closely with national stakeholders and sharing global best practices to further support Fiji’s electoral preparations.
In conclusion, both sides highlighted the strong partnership between Fiji and International IDEA and a shared commitment to advancing resilient and inclusive governance in Fiji and across the Pacific.
