
High Commissioner Suveinakama meets secretary of State of the Holy See

The Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua joined Pacific Islands Forum Ministers during a courtesy call to His Excellency President Lee Jae Myung of the Republic of Korea, held on the margins of the 6th Republic of Korea (ROK)–Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) in Seoul. During the engagement, the Assistant Minister thanked Korea for its longstanding friendship and expanding development cooperation with the Pacific.
Hon. Qereqeretabua conveyed Fiji’s warm appreciation to President Lee for Korea’s gracious hospitality and its strong partnership with Fiji and the broader Pacific region. She affirmed Fiji’s deep gratitude for Korea’s longstanding friendship, built over five decades, and also acknowledged Korea’s consistent support across key development sectors including, climate resilience, sustainable fisheries, health, education, maritime cooperation, and human resource development.
The Assistant Minister noted that Korea’s growing engagement aligns closely with the priorities of the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, particularly in strengthening climate action, connectivity, peace and security cooperation, and human development.
“We greatly appreciate Korea’s principled engagement with the Pacific, and its respect for Pacific–led priorities under the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent. We see Korea not only as a development partner, but as a trusted friend of the Blue Pacific family.”
Hon. Qereqeretabua also underscored Fiji’s interest in elevating bilateral cooperation in areas of renewable energy, digital and air connectivity, labour mobility pathways, and ocean stewardship.
She reaffirmed Fiji’s readiness to work with Korea to deepen the people-to-people links, enhance economic ties, and further deepen engagements in support of the region’s long-term resilience and prosperity.
In closing, Hon. Qereqeretabua conveyed Fiji’s best wishes to President Myung and the people of Korea, and expressed Fiji’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Republic of Korea for the benefit of both nations and the wider Blue Pacific.
