The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka received a courtesy call visit from the High Commissioner of the Republic of India to Fiji, His Excellency, Mr. Suneet Mehta at the Ministry headquarters in Suva on Friday 13/2/2026.
Hon. Ditoka warmly welcomed H.E. Mr. Mehta and the discussions focused on India’s long-term commitment to Fiji and the wider Pacific region, underscoring the importance of strategic engagement and cooperation in areas of common interest, between the two countries.
Hon. Ditoka acknowledged the enduring cooperation between the two countries which is based on the principles of respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and the United Nations Charter. Hon. Ditoka also acknowledged the strong historical and cultural ties between the two countries.
Further, High Commissioner Mehta congratulated Hon. Ditoka on his recent ministerial appointment and conveyed India’s best wishes on his tenure. He expressed India’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and engagement with Fiji. High Commissioner Mehta also emphasized India’s commitment to work closely with Fiji to advance shared interests and address common challenges.
The meeting highlighted the acceleration of the Fiji-India bilateral relations into a new phase of cooperation built on trust, shared values, and strong people-to-people ties underlined by the “Veilomani Dosti partnership”.
The meeting also highlighted updates on the 100 Bed Super Specialty Hospital project which will be another significant footprint in the bilateral relations that envisions to support the broader healthcare accessibility for ordinary Fijians and the Pacific region. The groundbreaking ceremony for the landmark project is anticipated later this year.
The other key initiatives discussed included cooperation in health, education, infrastructure development, defence and security. The discussions also elaborated on the key priorities of the Fiji High Commission in New Delhi in India and the Indian High Commission in Suva – working collaboratively to advance the relations for the mutual benefit of both countries and our peoples.
