Fiji-UK Reaffirm Relations: Hon. Ditoka Meets the British High Commissioner

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka today received a courtesy call from the Charge d’affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Suva, Mr. Wang Yuan.
The discussions held at the Ministry headquarters reflected on the Fiji-China bilateral, regional, multilateral relations and strategic cooperation.
Hon. Ditoka acknowledged China’s ongoing collaboration with Fiji, particularly focused on advancing socio-economic development through deepened engagements in agriculture, education, healthcare, trade and investment, infrastructure and poverty alleviation projects.
Hon. Ditoka reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to the One China Principle, stating that Fiji looks forward to further strengthening the valued relationship. This year will mark a significant milestone as both countries will commemorate the 51st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The relationship has stood the test of time and continues to be defined by respect for sovereignty, mutual prosperity, and collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
Charge d’affaires Mr Yuan congratulated Hon. Ditoka on his new appointment and expressed China’s commitment to further elevate the relations to greater heights. He highlighted China’s ongoing and planned development projects in Fiji, designed to enhance connectivity, promote trade and investment, and stimulate economic growth to provide tangible benefits for the two nations and our peoples.
The meeting also highlighted the trade and economic collaborations pursued through Fiji’s Embassy in Beijing and the key priorities for the year ahead.
The series of meetings with the respective diplomatic corps in Fiji are part of the key engagements undertaken by Hon. Ditoka since the assumption of his new ministerial portfolio.
