Fiji Launches Capacity-Building Workshop to Advance National Diaspora Policy

Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Honourable Ro Filipe Tuisawau, met with His Excellency Qian Bo, Special Envoy for Pacific Island Countries of the People’s Republic of China, on 24th March 2026 to advance the longstanding partnership between the two countries.
Minister Tuisawau reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to the One China Principle underpinned by the United Nation’s Resolution 2758. The discussions focused on mutual areas of cooperation, including the Vanua Levu Road Upgrade Project in Vanua Levu under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, poverty alleviation projects across Fiji and progressing the Enhanced Economic Partnership Agreement, which envisions the expansion of trade and development opportunities between both countries.
On the regional landscape, Minister Tuisawau underscored the importance of the Ocean of Peace Declaration and the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
Special Envoy Qian Bo reaffirmed China’s commitment to Fiji’s development priorities and expressed strong support for Pacific-led regional frameworks, including on climate action. Both counterparts agreed to deepen collaboration at the bilateral and multilateral levels for the benefit of their peoples and the wider Indo-Pacific region.
