Fiji has reaffirmed its commitment to multilateralism and a stronger, more united Commonwealth.
Delivering Fiji’s statement at the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting (CFAMM) yesterday on the margins of United Nations General Assembly 80th session (UNGA 80) in New York, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr Raijeli Taga, welcomed the adoption of the Commonwealth Strategic Plan 2025–2030 as a milestone for collective action.
She further underscored the need for clear timelines, effective implementation, and sustainable resourcing.
Dr Taga also welcomed plans for a Pacific Regional Office, saying it reflects recognition of the region’s priorities, while stressing it must be sustainable, cost-effective, and value-driven.
She highlighted Fiji’s preparations to host the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting in February 2026, describing it as an opportunity to advance cooperation on rule of law, justice, and governance.
In closing, Dr Taga reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to the Ocean of Peace initiative, positioning it as both a Pacific aspiration and a contribution to the Commonwealth’s renewal and resilience.
Commonwealth Secretary-General Hon. Shirley Botchwey commended member states for their ongoing collaboration and reaffirmed the Secretariat’s commitment to unity and prosperity across the Commonwealth family.
