The Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, Mr. Jone Maritino Nemani and Commissioner of Immigration Services Agency of Japan, Mr. Hideharu Maruyama, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on the Technical Intern Training Program held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in Tokyo on Thursday 13th November 2025.
The signing took place at the margins of the Hon. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka official visit to Japan this week. The MoC signifies a strategic initiative to transfer technical skills and techniques, and knowledge from the Government of Japan to the Government of Fiji, fostering human resource development and capacity building.
The first of such initiative marks the beginning of a shared commitment to strengthen Fiji’s workforce by cultivating globally competitive skills, opening pathways for Fijians to access employment opportunities in a highly developed economy, and simultaneously helping address labor shortages in key sectors within Japan.
Beyond economic benefits, the MoC aims to deepen bilateral relations and promote cultural exchange between Fiji and Japan. This partnership represents a forward-looking step toward promoting sustainable employment pathways and enhanced regional cooperation.
