Fiji and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening trade and investment, air and sea connectivity, and stronger people-to-people links.
This was emphasised in a meeting between the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka, and the Ambassador of the Republic of the Marshall Islands to Fiji, His Excellency Junior Aini. Fiji’s Roving Ambassador to the Pacific, Mr. William Toganivalu, and Counsellor for the Roving Ambassadors Division, Mr. Isaac Grace, also attended the meeting.
Hon. Ditoka acknowledged the growing relationship between the two countries following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Development Cooperation on the margins of the Leaders’ Summit in Honiara last year.
Minister Ditoka thanked the Micronesian Islands Forum for inviting Fiji’s Roving Ambassador to attend as an observer. He noted that Ambassador Toganivalu was accredited across thirteen Pacific Island countries, including territories of France and the United States, continues to strengthen Fiji’s regional engagement.
The meeting also highlighted the Pacific Fresh Airlink Initiative that came out of the Regional Cargo Agreement to improve access to affordable fresh produce from Fiji through Nauru Airlines.
Ambassador Aini also extended an invitation to Minister Ditoka to attend the upcoming Foreign Ministers Meeting in Majuro in June 2026.
Ambassador Aini also congratulated Fiji on hosting the pre-COP31 meeting.
Ahead of Fiji’s hosting of pre-COP31 in October, Ambassador Toganivalu also raised the opportunity for collaboration with Ambassador Aini on the possible participation of the vessel SV Juren Ae from the Marshall Islands as part of regional efforts to advance low-carbon sea transportation.
Fiji and the Marshall Islands currently co-chair the Pacific Blue Shipping Partnership, a regional initiative aimed at decarbonising domestic and regional shipping through the sustainable maritime transport.
