Ms. Deepika Singh
Director Trade

The Trade Unit serves as the central coordinating body for all matters relating to Fiji’s international trade policy. It leads the negotiation, implementation, and monitoring of trade agreements, as well as the defence of Fiji’s interests across bilateral, regional, plurilateral, and multilateral platforms, with the goal of securing market access, supporting export diversification, and strengthening Fiji’s participation in the global trading system. The Unit provides strategic guidance on trade policy formulation, ensuring alignment with Fiji’s broader economic and foreign policy objectives. In addition, it oversees Fiji’s Trade Commissions abroad, acting as a bridge between government and the private sector to promote Fijian exports and attract foreign investment.

The Unit identifies and addresses non-tariff barriers, engages in proactive advocacy on trade issues, and coordinates across ministries, regulatory agencies, and private sector stakeholders to maintain a coherent and integrated trade strategy. It also undertakes research, capacity-building, and policy analysis to anticipate emerging global trade trends and safeguard Fiji’s interests in an increasingly complex international environment. Furthermore, the Trade Unit supports inbound and outbound trade missions, manages trade disputes, and drives trade facilitation initiatives aimed at enhancing Fiji’s competitiveness as a regional trading hub.
