The non-resident Ambassador of Argentina to Fiji, His Excellency Mr. Maximo Gowland paid a courtesy visit to the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr Raijeli Taga, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Suva on Thursday 5th June 2025.
Dr Taga reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to working closely with Argentina to maximize the return on investments aimed at improving the livelihoods and wellbeing of our local communities – as taking development to the people is key to improving quality of life for them.
During the meeting, Dr Taga was honoured to receive a commemorative plaque from Ambassador Gowland in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Fiji and Argentina. The plaque presented on behalf of the Government of Argentina to Government of Fiji, signifies our enduring cooperation and friendship, and shared commitment to peace and prosperity.
She welcomed the prospects to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries and acknowledged the milestone 50 years of diplomatic relations commemorated this year.
Ambassador Gowland remained optimistic the bilateral relations between the two nations will continue to elevate to new levels, stating Argentina’s commitment to further align cooperation, tailored to Fiji’s development priorities.
During his visit to Fiji this week, Ambassador Gowland also visited the Fiji Football Association, which marked a significant step towards strengthening cooperation in the development of football in Fiji, through knowledge exchange, coaching programs, and joint initiatives.
The Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Canberra, Australia and Fiji High Commission in Canberra, Australia continue to work closely to build on such initiatives focused on advancing the development in both the nations.
