UNGA 81 HON. Ditoka Meets Director General Of The International Organisation For Migration (IOM)

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka, met with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Ms Amy Pope, on the margins of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The discussion covered labour mobility and the welfare of Fijian workers abroad, climate-related displacement and planned relocation of communities, disaster preparedness and response, and ways to deepen IOM’s partnership with Fiji and the wider Pacific.

The Minister thanked DG Pope for IOM’s continued support to Fiji on the finalisation of its National Diaspora Policy. Fiji further acknowledged the valuable support provided by the IOM in facilitating the development of the Pacific Regional Framework on Climate Mobility, a Pacific-led process co-chaired by Fiji and Tuvalu, which provides an important regional framework for addressing the complex challenges of climate-related human mobility.
