In a significant move to bolster Fiji’s agricultural sector through international partnership, His Excellency Jesoni Vitusagavulu, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Fiji to the State of Israel, accompanied by Counselor Josefa Tuima, conducted an official visit to the headquarters of Green 2000.
Green 2000 is a premier Israeli agricultural group specializing in the planning, setup, and management of complete “turn-key” agricultural projects. With a presence in over 30 countries, their expertise spans diverse sectors including dairy, greenhouses, and educational training centers, aimed at modernizing global food production.
The delegation engaged in high-level discussions with the founder of Green 2000, Mr. Refael Dayan, regarding three transformative projects currently being pursued for implementation in Fiji.
The visit offered the Ambassador and his team a firsthand view of Green 2000’s advanced infrastructure, which serves as the technical blueprint for the proposed Fijian initiatives. The delegation toured operational sites that demonstrate the efficiency and scalability of technologies that Green 2000 has successfully deployed globally.
A Proven Track Record of Global Success
A key focus of the visit was the extensive international experience of Green 2000. To date, the company has established over 100 similar projects in more than 30 countries, demonstrating a robust capability to adapt sophisticated agricultural technology to diverse climates and economic environments. This global footprint provides a high degree of confidence in the viability of the proposed projects for the South Pacific region.
A Comprehensive Approach to Food Security
The discussions centred on a strategic “triple-pillar” framework designed to modernize Fiji’s primary industries:
- Private Investment in Dairy Enterprise: Establishing a modern dairy operation utilizing Israeli best practices to enhance local milk production and reduce reliance on imports.
- High-Tech Greenhouse Production: Implementing advanced greenhouse systems for the year-round cultivation of high-quality vegetables, ensuring a stable and resilient food supply.
- Training and Support Ecosystem: Launching a dedicated companion project focused on technical training and ongoing support to ensure local farmers and stakeholders can successfully manage and maintain these new technologies.
Diplomatic Facilitation and Implementation
The dialogue between the Fiji Mission and Green 2000 centred on the Embassy’s role in accelerating these projects. Ambassador Vitusagavulu and team explored ways to provide the necessary institutional support and diplomatic channels to transition these private investments from the planning stage to operational reality.
Commitment to Sustainable Growth
This engagement highlights the proactive mandate of the new Fijian Mission in Israel to seek out “win-win” economic collaborations. By aligning Israeli technical expertise with Fiji’s developmental goals, Ambassador Vitusagavulu and the team are fostering a partnership rooted in innovation, sustainability, and mutual prosperity.
