In a significant development for the Fiji-U.S. security relationship, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau announced, the United States plans to provide US$500,000 in assistance to the Republic of Fiji Navy to strengthen maritime security and disaster response capabilities through secure and reliable communications technology.
During his visit to Stanley Brown Naval Base at Walu Bay on Saturday (28/2/26), Deputy Secretary Landau reaffirmed the United Sates’ commitment to working with its Pacific partners to counter drug trafficking, illegal fishing, and transnational crime.
The provision of advanced communications technology is aimed at strengthening the Republic of Fiji Navy’s maritime security capabilities. The technology will also improve interoperability with the U.S. donated Rigid-Hull Inflatable Boats and the refurbishment of the boat ramp at Stanley Brown Naval Base.
This collaboration is a testament to the U.S’s continued commitment to regional security and stability.
The Republic of Fiji Navy welcomed the timely support and commended the U.S. commitment in building maritime security and capabilities.
