
Fiji and India Advance Trade Relations

The Deputy Speaker for Fiji Parliament and Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua met the UN Women Representative, Ms. Alison Davidian and UN Women Policy Specialist, Ms. Lisa Kindervater, for a meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration on gender equality and women’s empowerment initiatives in Fiji and the wider Pacific region.
The discussions highlighted key issues on women’s economic empowerment, gender equality, strengthening women’s leadership at national and community levels and representation in politics, eliminating gender violence and discrimination.
Hon. Qereqeretabua thanked UN Women for its continued collaboration and support for Fiji Government’s commitment in promoting women’s empowerment and their important contributions in national development. She acknowledged the opportunities to collaborate further on gender responsive economic policies and inclusive programs aimed at supporting women’s leadership and increasing their participation in decision making in every aspect of development.
Ms. Davidian thanked Hon. Qereqeretabua for her leadership and advocacy on women’s empowerment. She expressed UN Women’s continued support for Fiji’s national efforts to advance gender equality, highlighting the organization’s readiness to provide technical assistance and policy guidance in line with international best practices and commitments.
The courtesy visit held at the Ministry headquarters earlier this week, underscored the strong partnership between the Fiji Government and the UN Women in promoting women’s leadership, gender equality and justice, creating violence free societies for our women and girls.
