Fiji and Commonwealth Reaffirm Relations Ahead of CLMM

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka welcomed the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Hon. Shirley Botchwey, upon her arrival in Nadi on (07.2.2026) for the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting which convenes next week at the Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort from 9 – 12 February 2026.
Hon. Ditoka congratulated Secretary-General Botchwey for her appointment, not only as the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, but also as the first woman from Africa to hold this office.
He acknowledged Fiji’s ongoing cooperation with the Commonwealth on issues of mutual priorities and reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to strengthen collaboration in advancing a resilient, inclusive and sustainable future for the Commonwealth family.
In her remarks, Secretary-General Botchwey congratulated Hon. Ditoka for the assumption of his new ministerial role and expressed confidence that the cooperation between the Commonwealth and Fiji, and the wider Pacific region will continue to deepen.
The Secretary-General Botchwey expressed her sincere appreciation to Fiji for the warm welcome, and for hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting convened under the theme: ‘Anchoring Justice in a Changing Tide: Strengthening the Rule of Law for a Resilient Future’.
In a landmark event, Fiji is hosting one of the largest international gatherings of law ministers and attorneys general focused on legal co-operation and a broad range of issues, including the role of technology in justice delivery, model contracts for natural resource governance, legal reform tools, and stronger protections for fundamental rights.
