
PS Taga chairs the meeting with the Heads of Diplomatic Missions (HOMS)

The Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Honourable Lenora Qereqeretabua today received a farewell courtesy call from the outgoing Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, H.E. Mr. Rokuichiro Michii, marking the conclusion of his diplomatic term in Fiji.
Hon. Qereqeretabua thanked Ambassador Michii for his tremendous contributions in strengthening the Fiji-Japan bilateral relations and cooperation, describing him as a “true friend of Fiji”.
Hon. Qereqeretabua also congratulated Ambassador Michii for his new diplomatic assignment and wished him well for his future endeavors.
Ambassador Michii extended his appreciation to Government and the people of Fiji for their support, stating that Fiji and broader Pacific region is an important development partner for Japan. He also reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Fiji and the region through various initiatives aimed at advancing sustainable development, security and prosperity.
He took the opportunity to update the Assistant Minister on the current and upcoming development projects implemented in Fiji – particularly on infrastructure, rural and maritime development, human resources, health, education, disaster management and climate resilience, people to people ties, amongst others.
During his term, Ambassador Michii contributed to the recent official visit of the Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka to Japan to meet with Japan’s newly elected and first female Prime Minister, H.E. Ms. Sanae Takaichi.
