Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka is heading to the Solomon Islands, to attend the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting.
The Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meet annually to consider important matters concerning the region, develop collective responses to regional issues and deliver on their vision for a resilient Pacific Region of peace, security, social inclusion, and prosperity that ensure the Pacific people can lead free, healthy, and productive lives.
The meeting also provides an opportunity for Fiji to reaffirm its commitment to collective action on issues such as climate justice, sustainable ocean management, regional security, and economic resilience.
A key highlight of Prime Minister Rabuka’s participation in the Forum will be the presentation of the “Ocean of Peace” declaration, which he hopes will gain the support of the Pacific Leaders.
The concept encapsulates PM Rabuka’s vision for regional unity and stability, peace, cooperation, prosperity, and security.
Prime Minister Rabuka is looking forward to engaging with fellow Forum Leaders from the 18 member countries to further advance shared goals and priorities, promoting regionalism and cooperation.
“The Pacific Islands Forum has always been the cornerstone of our regional solidarity. Fiji’s foreign policy position of ‘family first Pacific regionalism’ is key to Fiji’s approach on matters concerning the region. Fiji therefore stands ready to work with our brothers and sisters across the Blue Pacific to ensure that our ocean remains not just our greatest resource, but also a source of peace and stability for generations to come,” the Prime Minister said.
The meeting will be held from 8th to 12th September.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services Hon. Ro Filipe Tuisawau, and the Minister for Information Hon. Lynda Tabuya and Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dr Raijeli Taga will also be part of Team Fiji to the PIF Leaders Forum Meeting.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Hon. Viliame Gavoka will act as Prime Minister while Hon. Rabuka is away for official duties overseas.
