The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dr Raijeli Taga convened the monthly meeting with Fiji’s 13 Diplomatic Missions abroad with aim to enhance coordination of updates and planning on the crucial multilateral and bilateral engagements undertaken by the respective Missions located worldwide.
The first of such meetings conducted via zoom was an avenue for the Heads of Missions and Mission Team to discuss their upcoming plans and opportunities to expand Fiji’s diplomatic footprint through deepened global, regional and national engagements. The Missions were able to provide an overview of their priorities and plans to advance Fiji’s foreign policy goals, multilateral and bilateral relations, important negotiations at the international and regional forums, consular services, and diaspora engagements.
Dr. Taga thanked all the Missions for their commitment in representing and advancing Fiji’s interests abroad. She highlighted the monthly meeting is a platform for the Missions to share updates on their key priorities and work collaboratively in maximizing returns on investment for Fiji and contributions to the national development goals. Dr Taga thanked the Missions for their participation and encouraged them to continue working to the best of their abilities.
The respective Heads of Missions and their team thanked Dr Taga for leading this timely initiative aimed at enhancing internal communication, coordination and delivery of monthly plans, targets and achievements. They look forward to their next monthly meeting scheduled at the beginning of June 2025.
The meeting is an avenue for the Missions and Ministry headquarters Team to share insights into the current global landscape and pressing issues and ways Fiji can work effectively to navigate through those challenges by working closely with the development partners and relevant agencies.
Fiji’s Diplomatic Missions that were represented at the monthly meeting included: (1)Fiji’s Permanent Mission in New York, United States, (2) Permanent Mission of Fiji to the United Nations and Other International Organizations, (3) Fiji High Commission in Canberra, Australia, (4) Fiji High Commission in Wellington, New Zealand, (5) Fiji High Commission in London, United Kingdom, (6) Fiji High Commission in New Delhi, India , (7) Fiji High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, (8) Fiji High Commission in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, (9) Fiji Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, (10) Fiji Embassy in Beijing, People’s Republic of China , (11) Fiji Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, (12) Fiji Embassy in Washington D.C, United States of America, (13) Fiji Embassy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and the Middle East.
