
Non-Resident Ambassador of Ireland Pays Courtesy Call to Dr. Taga

The Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Foreign and External Trade, Dr. Raijeli Taga, yesterday received a courtesy call from the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Fiji, His Excellency Mikhail I. Petrakov, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Suva.
In her remarks, Dr. Taga welcomed Ambassador Petrakov and congratulated him on his appointment and the successful presentation of his credentials to the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, at the State House.
Dr. Taga highlighted the engagements undertaken through official exchanges and dialogue at regional and international forums.
Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including capacity building in defense and diplomacy.
It also highlighted areas of strengthening relations through the establishment of Honorary Consuls in both countries.
In addition, both sides recognized the growing climate challenges faced by Pacific Island countries and the importance of working together at regional and international platforms to advance access to climate financing and resilience initiatives.
Ambassador Petrakov expressed his sincere appreciation to Dr Taga for the welcome and reaffirmed the Russian Federation’s commitment to deepen bilateral relations with Fiji.
He further conveyed Russia’s readiness to continue engaging with Fiji in areas of shared interests and cooperation.
The meeting reaffirmed the cordial relations between Fiji and the Russian Federation and the shared commitment to advancing cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries.
Fiji and Russia established diplomatic relations in 1974.
