The Government of Fiji and the Kingdom of Morocco are exploring opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations and expand development cooperation in key sectors, including agriculture, tourism, renewable energy, education, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and climate resilience.
These areas of mutual interest were highlighted during the meeting between the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Honourable Sakiasi Ditoka, and the Special Envoy of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Pacific Island Countries, His Excellency Redouane Houssaini, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MFAET) Headquarters in Suva on Tuesday 13th October 2026.
Mr Houssaini congratulated Fiji on its leadership as co-host of the Pre-COP31 Meeting in Nadi and expressed Morocco’s support towards Fiji’s effort to advance ambitious climate action outcomes at the upcoming COP31 Conference in Türkiye. In response, Honourable Ditoka underscored the significance of the Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF) as a Pacific-led initiative to strengthen climate resilience and also welcomed the support of development partners, including Morocco.
The discussions reaffirmed the shared commitment of Fiji and Morocco to deepening cooperation in areas where Morocco holds comparative advantage. This commitment is expected to be reflected in the new Pacific Roadmap of Cooperation currently under review, which will provide a framework for enhanced engagements between the two countries.
During the discussions, Morocco presented plans for the Fourth Morocco-Pacific Forum, which is scheduled to be held in the Pacific in 2027, and highlighted ongoing consultations to identify a suitable host country for the event. Morocco also briefed Fiji on its candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2028-2029 term, with elections to be held in New York in June 2027, and sought the support of Pacific Island countries for its bid.
Fiji and Morocco formally established diplomatic relations on 15 June 2010. Since then, bilateral ties have been strengthened through high-level exchanges, cultural engagement, and cooperation across a range of areas of mutual interest.
