Prayer Breakfast

Prime Minister Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama hosted a prayer breakfast for the Australian PM, Hon. Scott Morrison on Friday 18th January 2019. In sharing his testimony, PM Morrison praised the efforts of PM Bainimarama for his leadership and commitment to the development of Fijian people.

He said Fiji is a nation of great faith and hope and he is appreciative of the remarkable culture of unity, among diverse cultures that makes Fiji truly unique.

National Rugby League Event at Albert Park, Suva

During the National Rugby League event organised at the Albert Park in Suva on Friday 18th January 2019, the Australian Prime Minister Hon. Scott Morrison expressed appreciation to the Fijians for their athletic abilities at a rugby league exhibition event to honor the achievement of the game in the country.

PM Morrison said that sports provides an opportunity to enhance collaboration between the two nations and as such he has indicated major government support towards Fiji Rugby League whereby close partnership through Australia-Pacific sports linkages program will facilitate a pathway for a first ever Fijian team in the In trust Super Premiership NSW in 2020.

He has assured the Australian government's support through Netball Australia towards Netball Fiji prepping up for their world cup.

Visit to Laucala Campus, University of the South Pacific

 

Friday 18th January 2019: Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison says Fiji’s relationship with Australia is more of a vuvale or family. While speaking at the Japan- Pacific ICT Center at the University of the South Pacific Hon. Morrison said that to talk about vuvale it goes beyond diplomacy it’s something that connects people more than any words or any documents can.

Hon. Morrison said that during his two day visit to Fiji he has seen enormous potential to broaden the current bilateral relations with Fiji. He has also assured Fiji and the region to join the fight in addressing the issues related to climate change.

Prime Minister Morrison has also announced a number of programs and assistance schemes for Fiji including more than $80 million grant to the University of the South Pacific.

Fijian Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Hon. Rosy Akbar accompanied PM Morrison to the university.

Visit to APTC, FNU Campus

Friday 18th January 2019: Australian Prime Minister, Hon. Scott Morrison today visited the APTC, FNU Campus to witness the training carried out through the refrigeration and air conditioning course at the Australian Pacific Technical college.

The program is being housed at Fiji National University Derrick Campus in Samabula. He was accompanied by Fijian Ministers for Infrastructure, Transport and Public Utilities and NDMO and Fiji Met Services Jone Usumate
PM Morrison met with the trainees and he was briefed about the overall work carried and plans of APTC.

Farewell of Prime Minister Hon. Scott Morrison

Prime Minister Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama met with Hon. Scott Morrison during the Australian delegation's departure at the Nausori Airport on Friday 18th January 2019.

Prime Minister Morrison thanked Prime Minister Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama for the Fijian Government’s hospitality and for facilitating various events over the course of his two-day visit to the country.

Prime Minister Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama also acknowledged Prime Minister Morrison for his support towards Fiji's development through strengthened collaboration between the two nations.

Traditional Welcoming Ceremony

The Australian Prime Minister Hon. Scott Morrison was accorded a traditional welcoming ceremony upon his arrival in Suva on the Thursday 17th Jan 2019. The event was attended by senior government officials, diplomatic corps, non-government organisation representatives. Speaking after the traditional welcoming ceremony, Mr Morrison said the visit will enable the two nations to strengthen collaboration and it marks a milestone achievement in enhancing bilateral relations and friendship between Australia and Fiji. The visit by PM Morrison is historic, first ever bilateral visit to Fiji by the Australian Prime Minister.

Bilateral Meeting

The first official bilateral visit to Fiji by the Australian Prime Minister, Hon. Scott Morrison has opened new gateways to strengthen bilateral collaboration between Australia and Fiji. A bilateral meeting was held on Thursday 17th January 2019; between the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Australian Prime Minister, Hon. Scott Morrison to look at strategies for enhanced Fiji-Australia engagement in areas of socioeconomic development opportunities. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison while addressing the media in a press conference pledged stronger support for collaboration with Fiji and he stated that Fiji and Australia share a bond which is more than just friendship. Prime Minister, Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama thanked Mr Morrison for his commitment to broaden the ongoing cooperation between Fiji and Australia.
