The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Dr. R.M. Marty M. Natalegawa has thanked Fiji for participating in the 2011 Indonesian Arts And Culture Scholarship Programme from 25 April – 29 July 2011. The four (4) Fijian participants are: Visharaad Sharan, Leone Bainivanua, Krystel Mannan and Etueni Tagivakatini.

The Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship has been conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia since 2003 and runs for 3 months.  Six neighboring countries participated in the initial program which has now increased to 40 countries this year. The program aims to deepen the participants’ understanding of Indonesian arts and culture. Participants are assigned to different arts centres in Bandung, West Java; Denpasar, Bali; Solo, Central Java; Surabaya, East Java; and Bandar Lampung, Lampung for the duration of approximately two and a half months. Other countries from the Pacific represented this year included Tonga (2), Samoa (2), Vanuatu (2), Solomon Islands (2), Nauru (2), and Tuvalu (1). Minister Natalegawa officiated in the opening and thanked the Fiji delegation for making it this year.
