Prime Minister Netanyahu thanked Bainimarama for the longstanding contribution that Fiji has made towards United Nations Peacekeeping in the region, and said that he looks forward to visiting Fiji in the future. The two leaders discussed growing bilateral relations and the strengthening bond between Israel and Fiji, and Prime Minister Bainimarama thanked Israel for its support in its ongoing fight against climate change. "Both terrorism and climate change are forces that no one nation can fight alone," said Bainimarama. "Israel and Fiji proudly stand together in taking on these common enemies –– battles that are absolutely critical to preserving and protecting this beautiful planet that we have been blessed with." PM shared warm wishes on behalf of all Fijians, who he says share a special bond with Israel because so many Fijian troops and their families have spent time in the country and share lasting memories and friendships with the Israeli people.

Several members of Public Accounts Committee of the Fijian Parliament visiting Wellington this week took advantage of a visit to the Wellington City Council’s Southern Landfill yesterday to glean a few ideas for waste management in Fiji. This included the Hon. Alexander O’Connor, Assistant Minister for Health, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, Opposition parliamentarian and Ms. Priya Chand, Parliamentary Secretary who were accompanied by the Fiji High Commission New Zealand staff.
The Southern landfill is an impressive setup particularly as it focuses on recycling and minimising the damage to the environment at the landfill.
Other remarkable features of the landfill were its gas collection, electricity regeneration, green waste mulching and water table management. The Hon. O’Connor, an engineer by profession, was particularly impressed and intends to develop a few ideas for the Fijian Government to consider.
The PAC members were invited to attend the Pacific PAC training seminar in Wellington facilitated by UNDP from the 12th to the 13th December.
The PAC members, including Deputy Chair, Hon. Mohammed Dean, MP, were hosted to afternoon tea at the Fiji Chancery. It was an opportunity for the Parliamentarians to meet the Locally Engaged Staff at the Mission and also update the staff on the work and concerns of the Public Accounts Committee.

Cook Islands seek Stronger ties with Fiji |

With Fiji’s growing diplomatic relations both regionally and internationally, the Pacific Island Countries continue to reachout to Fiji with the interest to strengthen their bilateral partnerships. This has been reflected through the recent engagements undertaken between the officials of the Fijian Government and that of the Cook Islands. The two officials also discussed initiatives around closer collaboration between executive management officials in the Pacific through an organized forum and the need for a platform to nurture the development of the young Pacific leaders. In October earlier this year, through a formal letter, the Cook Islands Prime Minister Honourable Henry Puna congratulated and expressed gratitude to Hon. Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama for his inspiring leadership and accomplishments in championing the climate change issues at the global front. END
