The Protocol and Consular Division oversees the adherence to and the correct application of National and International Protocols. Nationally, this involves the State, the Government and the Vanua. Internationally this would mean the various conventions and agreements that Fiji is a party to.
In terms of international relations, the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961, the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations 1963, the Diplomatic Privileges and Immunities Act 1971 and any other government sanctioned Foreign Policy are the authorities that govern and dictate the activities of the Protocol & Consular Division of the Ministry.
The Diplomatic Privileges & Immunities Act 1971 is the domestic legislation that gives life to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961. It is also the raison d’etre for the Protocol Division of the Ministry.
