Fiji’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China (PRC), H.E. Commodore Esala Teleni, presented his credentials to the President of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Mr Hu Jintao on 15 March 2011.
The presentation of the credential was held a day after the closing of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and National Peoples Congress (NPC).
In his opening remarks, President Hu Jintao welcomed Commodore Esala Teleni to the PRC and acknowledged his achievements and contributions to Fiji and the Fiji Military Force over the years and hopes that his new appointment will further enhance the Sino-Fiji relations.
President Hu Jintao further praised the Republic of Fiji for being the first Pacific Island Nation to establish diplomatic ties with the PRC. The diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries have gained sound momentum over the past 36 years. Joint co-operation over the years have increased the number of projects targeted at improving the economic and social aspects of both countries.
President Hu Jintao further acknowledged the high level visits of both the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, and the Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to Peoples Republic of China. The visits symbolize the significant and strength of the relations between the two countries.
H.E. Commodore Teleni responded and extends his gratitude for the historic occasion and the kind assistance he has received so far from Chinese authority. He assures President Hu Jintao of Fiji’s respect of the “One China Policy” and is looking forward to further foster and deepened the “already healthy relations between Fiji and the PRC”.
He thanked President Hu Jintao for his kind words of assurance and stated that come what may, we will continue to value the importance of the Fiji/China relationship. Our relationship has been tested over time, but endures through mutual respect and understanding. He extends the well wishes of the Government and the People of the Republic of Fiji to the President and the people of China.
In his closing remarks, President Hu Jintao added that the PRC fully respects the development path Fiji has chosen towards moving its country forward and is ready to further extend the relations between the two countries into new heights.
