26th July 2012: Fiji’s High Commission in London continues to receive donations from groups and individuals towards the PM’s Flood Appeal Drive. Four groups visited the Chancery recently to present their donations totaling GBP£2150. The High Commissioner thanked them for their generous financial support which will be used to alleviate the suffering and loss of those made homeless by the floods.
First it was Mr. & Mrs. Singh representing Fiji Cultural Club who presented a cheque of £500. Members of the Club later presented another cheque of £600 collected during a dinner that they had organized where more than 100 people attended.
Members of the Shepherd's Bush Christian Church followed with a cheque of £500.
Members of the Tukadra family of Newport, Wales presented a cheque of £550 which was collected during the funeral service of their late father, Ratu Timoci Tukadra in April. The Tukadra family is originally from Ba and had migrated first to NZ than to UK in the 1960s.
Meanwhile the High Commission has transferred the sum of GBP£95,098.87 to Fiji as remittance by our nationals in the British Army for the month of June. There is a slight drop from last month, and this has been due to the current reductions in the British Army which affected some of our nationals.
