The AAMEER Bureau supports the Fijian Missions in Abu Dhabi, Addis Ababa, London, Brussels, Brasilia and Washington and the bilateral issues from Cuba and Jamaica through the New York Mission.

These Missions are Fiji’s windows to the continent of Americas, Africa, the Middle-East and Europe regions. They are significantly important regions since the USA, the UK and the Middle East continue to serve as source countries for remittances while the EU has been a major provider of development finance cooperation and importer of Fiji’s sugar.

Labour migration is something that Government is earnestly considering as a means to address unemployment. The Ministry will identify and focus on specific areas to secure opportunities that will benefit the people of Fiji. It is noted that apart from the Middle Eastern countries of Iraq, Egypt (Sinai) and Israel/Syria (Golan Heights), the African countries of Liberia, Sudan and South Sudan also have placements of Fijian security personnel working under UN mandated missions while there is also a growing number of Fijian civilians finding employment in various countries on the continent. The Bureau is also responsible for the bilateral relations from the Brussels and Geneva Missions.

Apart from peacekeeping role, the African continent has the potential for economic and multilateral power houses through the African Union and established multilateral institutions. Our involvement in multilateral discussions in the AU, UNEP and UNECA serves the strategic intentions of Government.
