Minister's Welcome Message

Fiji PM

Hon. J.V Bainimarama
Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the official website for Fiji’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This website was designed to introduce to the visitor Fiji's most distinctive foreign policies and priorities on crucial regional and international issues and at the same acquaint the visitor with information that has a direct bearing on the Ministry's functions.

Fiji's foreign policy is derived from a strategic vision that is aligned to our nation's constitution and my Government's domestic and international ambitions for Fiji. Fijian diplomacy in this context has emerged with a clearly defined strategy, taking into consideration, in the first place, domestic, regional and international given facts. Secondly, the ever changing global priorities and circumstances. Thirdly, Fiji's geo-strategic location, in the Pacific, and finally Fiji's rich historic legacy.

Now more than ever before, Fiji's leadership on the international stage has been significant. In one year alone, Fiji has been tasked to preside in UN negotiations on climate change and address the decline in our oceans health. These are two major areas that the global community looks to Fiji for direction and leadership. In peacekeeping, we continue to maintain our commitment to global peace and security through our forces serving in volatile areas around the world.

Visitors can use this platform to look at how my Government is playing a vital role amongst the community of nations while at the same time, maintaining our own sovereignty and dignity as an independent nation. Every Fijian can be proud of the progress we have made to advance Fiji's foreign interests and Government's objectives and deliverables.

Thank you

JV Bainimarama

Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs
