Principal Accountabilities:

1. To assist the Chief of Protocol in ensuring proper registration and accreditation of staff in various Diplomatic Missions, Regional and International Organizations based in Fiji by verification and processing of relevant documents and application forms.

2. To ensure the review and updating of Fiji’s Protocol Manual incorporating the various protocols observed in Fiji.

3. To deputize the Chief of Protocol on the Presentation of Credentials ceremony at Government House, officiate in State Functions, National Days and celebrations

4. To provide quality protocol advice to HE the President, the Prime Minister and the Ministers.

5. To coordinate programmes for visiting dignitaries through consultation and planning with relevant stakeholders and authorities.

6. To provide liaison and protocol facilitation at both international airports. Arrangement security during visits by dignitaries through proper planning, preparation and coordination of relevant logistics and resources.

7. To create awareness on Protocol related matters through education, dissemination of information and advice to line ministries, Fiji Missions abroad, regional and multilateral organizations, both local and abroad.

Person Specification:

The candidate must possess an undergraduate degree in International Relations, International Development, Governance, Management and Public Administration from a reputable institution with 2-3 years relevant work experience. Relevant postgraduate qualification is preferable.

Knowledge and Experience:

(i) An intimate knowledge of global protocol requirements in the wide variety of diplomatic circumstances, clients and the Vienna Convention, and the Privileges and Immunities Act.
(ii) Have a wealth of knowledge on the Fiji Government administration
(iii) Knowledge and understanding of the Government policies on Civil Service Reform .
(iv) Experience in change management would be an advantage.
(v) Good understanding in effective reporting systems
(vi) Good understanding of performance management system
(vii) Sound Knowledge and understanding of Fijian protocol and culture.

Skills and Abilities:

(i) Ability to perform ad hoc duties as and when required, in the absence of the team leader.
(ii) A person who is steady and in readiness to provide briefs to the President or the Prime Minister whenever called to do so.
(iii) Demonstrated ability to work beyond normal working hours and work with others and in teams.
(iv) A person who is eager to learn many of the above qualities, he/she should be able to fit in without major training.
(v) Negotiating with individuals and organisations at various levels.
(vi) Communicating ideas and information in both written and verbal formats.

Salary: FS01 - $39,452- $49,820
